Why was my proof of address rejected, and what documents are accepted for verification on the Brighty App?

Proof of address verification

Updated today

Address verification is a critical step in creating or maintaining your Brighty account. This guide explains common reasons why proof of address submissions are rejected and provides a comprehensive list of valid documents to help you successfully complete the process.

Common Reasons for Proof of Address Rejection

Your proof of address may be rejected for the following reasons:

  • Invalid Document Date: The document is older than three months from the date of submission and no longer valid for verification purposes.

  • Incomplete Information: The document does not include your full name and full residential address, including the postal code.

  • Unacceptable Format: The document is provided as a screenshot instead of a PDF or a clear photo of the original document.

  • Mismatch of Address: The address on the submitted document does not exactly match the address you used while signing up for Brighty.

  • Unacceptable Document Type: Mobile phone bills, medical bills, receipts, or insurance statements are not accepted.

Valid Proof of Address Document Requirements

To ensure your address verification is approved, your proof of address document must meet these criteria:

  1. Full Name and Address: Clearly display your full name and current residential address, including the postal code.

  2. Current Date: Be dated within the last three months.

  3. Clear Format: Be submitted as a PDF or a clear photo of the original document (screenshots are not accepted).

  4. Matching Information: The address must exactly match the one you used during sign-up.

Accepted Document Types

The following document types are accepted as valid proof of address:

  • Utility bill

  • Bank or credit card statement

  • Tax invoice or government-issued residential statement/certificate

  • Official ID card that includes your current address (must differ from the ID used for personal identity verification)

Non-Accepted Document Types

To avoid rejection, do not submit:

  • Mobile phone bills

  • Medical bills

  • Receipts

  • Insurance statements

  • Screenshots from a phone or computer

Steps to Resubmit Your Proof of Address

If your submission was rejected, follow these steps to correct the issue:

  1. Verify that your document meets all validity requirements listed above. Ensure that it is dated within the last three months and that all information is visible, clear, and matches your account details.

  2. Prepare a new document in the required format (PDF or photo of the original).

  3. Recheck the address details on the document to ensure they exactly match the address you used during sign-up.

  4. Upload the corrected document for verification.

Additional Tips

  • If you are using a government-issued residence permit or Visa (e.g., Portuguese Residence Permit or Visa D), and it has expired, you can still verify your account by submitting proof of renewal.

  • Ensure all photos or scans are clear and that all text on the document is legible.

By following these guidelines, you can successfully complete the verification process for your Brighty account.
